Microstock Photography as the name suggest is a spin off from the traditional Stock Photography. One of the benefits of Microstock photography is the doors and opportunities that it opens for the average photographer.
If you want to improve as a photographer and earn money to help supplement an expensive hobby, this is one avenue to go into. Microsoft photography is one of the best residual income opportunity a photographer can get. I for one have benefited greatly by submitting to microstock agencies, with specific reference to Dreamstime where I am an exclusive contributor. While the evaluation criteria differ from agency to agency, the standards of image offered by the agencies remain.
Some of the ways which I have benefited by submitting:
1. Money - though not alot it does help motivate you to do more. With 1051 images online for a period of 1+ year I have made a total of USD 2420.
2. Critique - Your own eyes will deceive you and even your friends, but Dreamstime have become my greatest critique. Honest and constructive opinions which you rarely find elsewhere.
3. Knowledge - You learn about composition, lighting, commercial value, planning and even conceptualizing your shots as oppose to blindly taking a shot. It makes you aware.
4. Post processing - The more you submit the more you see and understand white balance, contract and even colors.
